SRIMATHE SRI RANGARAMANUJA MAHA DESIKAYA NAMAHA.

VELAMUR

Velamur is a village situated on the right side of the single

road between Melmaruvathur and Vandawasi, Chengalpet District.,

adjacent to Ramavaram village. It has religio-historical importance.

It enjoys an added importance for us,as Srimad Andavan sishyas,

due to the fact that our illustrious present Acharya Srimushnam

Srimad Andavan Sri Rangaramanuja Mahadesikan hails from this

village.During His Poorvashramam,prior to taking Thuriasramam(Sanyasasramam),

he lived in this village with his family members, served as a school teacher

and took care of the ancient Perumal temple existed there.

This Village is the birth-place (Avathara Sthala) of the great

Sri Rangaramanuja Mahadesikan who is otherwise called as

Upanishad Bhashyakarar who was the author of Bhashya of the

Upanishads. He belonged to the family of Vaishnavas of Bharatwaja

Gotra and Saamavediens. At that time ,this village was the abode of several Saama veda vidwans

This great Family had produced four great Acharyas of our

Munitraya Sampradaya in succession i,e.,

Sri Upanishad Bashyakara Sri Rangaramanuja Mahadesikan

Sri Ranghanathaswamy

Sri Veeraraghava Guru and

Sri Rangapathi Desika

There is a small but beautiful Temple in which Sri Lakshmi

Narayana Perumal is the presiding deity.

The family of Thirumangalam Sri Bhashya Simhasanam having the

maternal relationship with the Velamur family evinced keen interest in

building and maintaining the Temple.

This old Temple was renovated in the year 1903, and again in 1995,

this was renovated by our Acharya, (present) Srimad Andavan.

The special feature of this temple is that this is the only temple

wherein the UtsavaMurthy of Sri Upanishad Bhashyakarar is installed

and worshipped.

Though this village is a small one, all Utsawas in the temple are

celebrated throughout the year and very well attended by large number

of learned scholars and devotees as well.

Page 2 of the photo gallery displys the temple, main presiding deity , and the

uthsvar taken in a procession. All these pictures taken on Panguni Uthiram festival day.

Srimad Andavan sishyas are invited to visit this place .
